The Sacred Heart Prep Gators women’s soccer team started off their season strong today strong. They played the infamous Hillsdale Knights in a season opener that was deemed one of the matches for the year. The lady gators are coming off a division 2 CCS finals appearance and want to come back with an even better result. The gators lost strong players from the previous year including Tierna Davidson(who will return as a coach) and Carey Bradley but continue to have a strong core as well. Key Returners include, Mckenna Angotti(Stanford Commit), Mia Shenk(University of Pennsylvania commit), Cameron Gordon(University of Cal Berkeley commit for Lacrosse), Sophie Amid-Hozour, Lizzie Kruse, Audrey Shenk, Lindsey Johnston, Maggie O’Keefe and Caitlyn Perkocha in goal. However some new faces are also breaking onto the scene as well including three freshman and a sophomore transfer, Nora Brew, Sasha Bellack, Izzy Jordan, and Kristine Fischer-Colbrie. The Gators started off strong today scoring quick and fast in the first half. Mia Shenk added two header goals while Mckenna Angotti also had a header goal off all off of Cameron Gordon’s and Maggie O’Keefe’s crosses. Izzy Jordan the only freshman starter today made a world class debut as she scored twice in the first half. A day to be remembered for the rest of her life. Cameron Gordon and Lindsey Johnston each added one final goal. Caitlyn Perkocha had 4 saves today including one on a penalty kick and another on a one on one situation. Her strong performance helped the Gators keep the Knights scoreless. The Final score being 7-0. I caught up with Mia Shenk and McKenna Angotti after the game and they were able to give me some insight for their perspective on their upcoming season. Shen says “I think we will have a very successful season because we have a deeper bench than we have previous years due to very good underclassman. We were able to see that today with a great performance from our freshman Izzy.” Angotti added on “I agree, I think we can win another CCS championship this year as that is our number one goal this year.” The Gators next game will be against the Lancers of St. Francis this Saturday December 3rd at 3:15 at Fremont High school.
